THE PRIMARY CONTACT PRACTITIONER MINDSET
Hello and welcome to the First ECT blog.
I hope that this information aids you on your Professional journey.
This blog is about becoming a Primary Contact Practitioner, offering you specific benefits such as increased patient autonomy, enhanced professional growth, and improved patient outcomes.
But why is this?
I believe this is the best profession in the world, we have an opportunity to be not only part of but also seperate from the standard medical model of healthcare. This grants us a fantastic opportunity to educate not only ourselves but also our patients on how to achieve an optimum state of health today.
So, Aidan, give me YOUR definition that you adhere to,
Here You go:
As a Chiropractor, you hold a pivotal role as the first point of contact for patients seeking care without needing a referral from another Healthcare practitioner. This position of trust and responsibility underscores the importance of your role in the healthcare system, making you an indispensable part of the patient's journey to wellness.
How?
Clinical Autonomy: The ability to independently assess, diagnose and manage patients within your scope of practice. This autonomy empowers you to make decisions that best serve your patients, enhancing your professional growth and the quality of patient care.
Diagnosis and Triage: Identify conditions that fall within your scope of practice whilst recognising red flags [such as severe pain, sudden loss of function, or signs of serious illness] and referring them on when necessary.
A patient-centered approach involves understanding your patient's health goals, providing them with the necessary education, and involving them in decision-making. This approach empowers the patient and fosters a sense of empathy and care in your practice.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Coordinates care with other healthcare providers when necessary. This collaboration not only ensures comprehensive care for your patients but also makes you an integral part of the larger healthcare community, fostering mutual respect and understanding.
A Primary Contact Chiropractor is a skilled and competent clinician who can effectively manage complex cases, communicate confidently with patients, and contribute significantly to their long-term health and well-being.
Here at ECT my aim, (and I include myself in this standard) is to raise our collective professional standing for both our patients and ourselves. By writing this blog and through the videos and in-person training that I provide, I wish to contribute to your success.
This blog is just one way to interact, promote, and protect what I believe is a worthwhile endeavour for us all.
